Cropping Time
What is a Crop?
A crop is defined as a gathering of friends on a set date and
set time at a place to work together on individual or group
scrapbooking projects, card making or paper crafting projects. Supplies
and ideas are shared along with laughter and of course memories.
Scrappin' Soul Sisters hosts Friday night crops every other
Friday night from 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM (midnight). The crop includes
dinner, dessert and soda/water. Often our dinners are home cooked and
catered meals by our resident chef's.
We request that you contact the store to pre-register for the
crop. We do reserve the right to cancel a crop if less than three
people are registered. The crop fee is $12.00, which calculates to
$2.00 per hour.
Our crop rooms are large, bright comfortable rooms, which
contain a variety of tools such as the Accu Cut Die Cut System, Sizzix
Die Cutting System, Xyron Cutting System, Cricut and a journaling
station. The chairs are large and comfortable computer chairs which
adjust in height and support to assist with individual comfort.
Periodically we host all day crops or special themed crops.
For all day and Friday night crops, check the monthly calendar for
dates.
You will receive a free Friday Night crop during the month of
your birthday! A valid driver's license is required for verification.
Classes
- 1) Are Your Layouts or Projects Clear? Make sure your
student understands from the outset what will be included in the class
and what they need to provide, along with the time, date and cost. Good
teachers do not assume that the retail storeowner has provided all that
information. Your storeowner may be Wonder Woman but she will still
have days when a crisis happens and she may not get your class members
called. Take the responsibility off her busy shoulders and call your
students. You will make loyal learners by your cheery call.
Tell them you're glad they are coming to your class and
remind them of cost, supplies they'll need to bring and any added
benefits...such as "Remember, you'll get 10 percent off anything you
purchase on the night of Border Basics, so bring your wish list!" Ask
if they have any questions ahead of time and add a request that they
provide 24 hours notice if something comes up. Most stores now have a
24-hour cancellation policy unless there is an emergency.
- 2) Do Your Homework. When making up your class ideas, make
some notes on any tricky things involved. What may seem simple to you
might throw a new scrapper for a total loop. Look your sample over with
a critical eye and see if there is anything that takes extra
explanation or time, or if there is a new product that everyone might
not have used. Double check supplies and make sure there is enough for
everyone to use. I usually try and check at least two weeks ahead so if
an order needs to be placed our owners have time to do so. Better yet,
when selecting product for sample pages go with something there is lots
of!
- 3) Add Some Pizzazz. For my basic class I dress up as
Sergeant Scrap...complete with dog tags, (a die-cut on a ribbon) and
camouflage clothes. It's a pretty unforgettable class if I do say so
myself. But you can add pizzazz without going for the costume thing.
Bring treats, talk about your own bad page days...similar to bad hair
days, only with more adhesive and less hairspray...play music softly
while people work, anything to make the atmosphere more pleasant. And
that leads to suggestion #4...
- 4) How Is the Environment? Is your classroom well lit? If
not, invest in a couple of halogen freestanding lamps at a local
building supply. They add tons of light and make it so much easier to
work with colors and tints. Is it orderly? If not, take an afternoon
and straighten things so that people can access them easily. Put
templates and punches together and make a couple of little baskets with
adhesives, straight scissors and basic pens that can be set in the
center of your tables. Is it clean? If not get out your Windex, your
swiffer and a vacuum and go for it babe! Do people have enough room?
Rather than try and cram lots of people together, divide your class
into two smaller classes. It will be a much more rewarding experience
for the participants.
- 5) Finally...Come Early. An extra half hour before class
will guarantee that you can assess the needs you have before teaching,
so when your students arrive you can concentrate on their needs...and
that above all else will make your class unforgettable!
Please call ahead to reserve a seat. Reservations must be
paid when registering for the class. A 48-hour notice will be needed if
you're not able to attend the class. You will receive a credit towards
a future class. We reserve the right to cancel a class for less than 2
class participants. Please bring your class kit with you to class.
Class participants receive a 10% discount on regular
priced merchandise (excluding: Quickkutz)
Class Kit: 12 inch trimmer, scissors, pencil, ruler,
adhesive, pop dots, glue dots, bone folder, black journaling pen
